Choosing the Right Centrifuge Tubes: A complete guide

By Abdos

Centrifugation is a technique that is used to separate all kinds of particles according to their sedimentation properties by using centrifugal forces. Some factors like size, density, and shape affect a particle’s sedimentation properties. However, the composition of the solution in which the particles are suspended greatly affects both density and shape. In any laboratory, centrifuge tubes are used for biological separation, sample processing, spinning, and storing of a wide range of chemicals. At Abdos Life Sciences, we offer a wide range of centrifuge tubes, each designed with specific features to support laboratory workflow.

High-speed centrifuge tubes are made especially to withstand rotational forces of 18,000Xg while preserving the integrity of sample. Made from high-quality virgin polypropylene (PP) for excellent chemical resistance and structural strength. To suit different lab requirements, tubes are available in 15 mL and 50 mL sizes in bulk and sterile formats. A built-in flat thread vacuum tight closure designed cap ensures leak-proof functioning, while a frosted writing surface and silk-screen graduation aid in precise labeling and sample monitoring. Majorly used in processes such as cell harvesting, washing, pelleting, and the separation of biological components.
However, amber centrifuge tubes, provide improved protection by blocking UV and visible light for the samples that are sensitive to light. These are particularly helpful for handling photosensitive samples and reagents that need to be handled carefully.

Maximum Recovery in Low-Retention Centrifuge Tubes

When working with expensive reagents, proteins, or viscous biological samples, even minor sample loss can impact experiment results. However, Abdos Last Drop Low-Retention Centrifuge Tubes are made with a homogeneous, hydrophobic surface that inhibits protein and reagent binding to the tube walls enabling up to 10 times lower sample retention than normal tubes. Ideal for protein recovery, enzyme assays, and small-volume workflows, these tubes support centrifugation speeds up to 18,000 Xg RCF, ensuring compatibility. Available in 15 mL and 50 mL sizes, both sterile and non-sterile formats helping you preserve valuable samples.

Polystyrene Centrifuge Tubes

To perform the cell culture techniques, it’s essential to maintain the viability and integrity of cells. Abdos Polystyrene Centrifuge Tubes are hydrophobic & its biologically inert surface is ideal for cells and protein recovery. The clear, optically superior material allows for easy visual inspection, while the inert properties reduce unwanted cell or protein interaction with the tube surface. These tubes can withstand up to 2,500 Xg RCF, allowing gentle spins in basic research and tissue culture labs.

Stand-Alone Convenience: Self-Standing Centrifuge Tubes

Abdos Self-Standing Centrifuge Tubes are built with a skirted bottom and can stand upright on flat surfaces while eliminating the direct need for racks. This design is particularly useful during sample transfers, cold storage, or when hands-free convenience is critical. Made up from polypropylene (PP), these tubes provide reliable durability and can handle centrifugal forces up to 7,000 Xg RCF. They are available in 50 mL formats, in both bulk and sterile options, and are equipped with leak-proof caps to protect your samples during handling and spin cycles.

Abdos MaxiRCF™ Trace Metal Free Centrifuge Tube

Made from USP Class VI medical-grade polypropylene, which is free from natural rubber, additives, and 19 trace metals, these centrifuge tubes offer optimal performance and are specifically designed for environmental sample analysis, trace metal detection, ICP-MS, and high-density gradient separations. Each tube is rigorously validated to verify that the trace metal concentration remains below 1 part per billion (<1 ppb) in order to eliminate contamination hazards in ultra-sensitive applications.

These tubes can endure up to 20,000 Xg RCF (15 mL and 50 mL conical bottom) and 7,000 Xg RCF (50 mL self-standing), making them ideal for all kinds of experimental needs. Abdos utilizes indigenous medical grade resin technology, provides a uniform wall thickness & enhanced durability.  The tough resin construction at the conical bottom resist breakage and allows frozen storage at -80°C. Additionally, the tubes feature certified leak-proof screw caps, a large, frosted area for labeling, and are ISO 11137-validated sterile (SAL 10⁻⁶). These tubes ensure consistency and safety in every spin, whether used in environmental testing, pharmaceutical research, or toxicology.
